Global Warming

I’m sure you have already heard of global warming. But do you really know what it’s all about?

Usually, when sunlight and solar radiation hit the earth, they are reflected into space. Unfortunately, human activity has resulted in the accumulation of pollutants called greenhouse gases. Some of them are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and water vapor. Global warming occurs when these air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. This is the greenhouse effect.

Did you know that for the last 40 years the global annual temperature has increased by 0.18˚C per decade? Our earth is hotter than ever! If we want to avoid a future of extreme droughts, floods, and other disasters caused by climate change, we must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040.

That’s a challenging task to do so we need your help!

You can help by making small changes in your life like using more energy-efficient electricity like solar; littering less and spreading the word to others!

You can also help by planting trees. This reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the air which then reduces global heating.

In association with Friends of Karura forest, I encourage us all to support the planting of 1,000 trees this November. The Friends of Karura is a Community Forest Association comprising Kenyans and other champions of participatory forest management who are dedicated to protecting the city’s largest green area, the Karura Forest Reserve for future generations.

Contribute towards growing trees through our M-Changa fundraiser on https://mchanga.africa/fundraiser/57865. Share this fundraising link with friends and family and together let’s halt global warming.
